How to Design Courseware (Instructional Courseware Design)
In
simple word, any meaningful lesson can
help maximizing the acquisition of knowledge and skill which however are needs
of learner, define the learning objectives and can create some intervention in
order to achieve objectives.
First
thing first, to apply CALL it is best to get to know behavourist and
constructivist learning theories beforehand.
Learners’ needs
|
·
Learners’ current
skill/knowledge
·
Needs analysis has to be conducted with the
syllabus, conducting survey, free writing and public reports.
·
Adjust lesson according to students’ needs
|
Learning
outcomes
|
·
Input students get/learn/achieve at the end of
lesson
·
Ensure the learning outcomes is measurable to
monitor students’ achievements

About creating syllabus to be used in the class
based on the needs analysis, lesson planning, material selection &
planning of implementation & intention

Thus,
to develop a courseware, a framework based on Addie model is necessary for the
development of instructional coursework.
1)
ANALYSIS
Idenitfy the objectives, learners level and needs.
Somes of Q might be helpful in analysis:
·
What are the learners? What
is the desired behaviour of achievement? What
are the delivery options? What
are the learning theories applied?
2)
DESIGN
It involves with the learning objections, learners
needs, learning theorires, materials, exercises and content.
Creating a stroyboard of what the courseware should
looks like to help us keeping track with the project.
3)
DEVELOPMENT
The stage where the developer (teacher/programmer)
create and assemble content and assets based on the blueprint in the design
phase.
The
Creators
|
The
Testers
|
Who are responsible in developing the graphic
& materials then integrate into courseware.
|
Who
will check for bugs and errors then give feedback on the design.
|
4)
IMPLEMENTATION
The stage where the creators will develop procedures
for the implementation of the
courseware.
It includes training facilitators and learners to use
courseware.
By then, lesson plan is developed to suit the
courseware.
5)
EVALUATION
The stage where the impact and the effectiveness of the
courseware is evaluated.
